Here’s the 101 for prompting to help you harness AI’s power and utilise it more effectively!

Generative artificial intelligence, just like other tools used in education and research, can assist in achieving your study outcomes. However, you need to use generative artificial intelligence effectively and critically to get the most out of it. This starts with developing clear prompts that provide the software with enough information to allow it to produce the best response to your request.

There are no specific guidelines for citing ChatGPT or other generative AI in Harvard style. This is interim advice only and subject to change.

If you are quoting, paraphrasing or summarising material directly from an AI tool, it is important to cite this information as you would any other source. This includes an in-text citation or footnote (depending on your referencing system).
RECOMMENDATION: Generative AI tools are not high-quality sources. Using AI outputs as a standalone basis of information may reflect poorly on the quality of your academic work. For this reason, try avoiding using a generative AI tool like ChatGPT as a primary source for factual information.
